I made my first New  Englandtrip. We went to visit Berklee College of Music but I had to
squeeze in a visit to the House of Seven Gables and the home of Nathaniel  Hawthorne. Many of the men in these seaport towns went to sea and did not make  it home. Nathaniel's dad was one of these. That resonates with me because lots  of the men in my hometown make their living from the sea, and every year it  seems somebody doesn’t make it home. There is a memorial to those lost at sea in  the neighboring town of Gloucester. Under the year, it lists the names  of those who died at sea. There are lots of names. We also stuck our nose in the
Crow’s Nest where the men from the Andrea  Gailwere reputed to hang out while ashore. And by the way, The Perfect Storm is on our classroom  bookshelf.
